Why I started podcasting.

Hello, I’m Noriko, teaching Japanese.

Well, today I would like to write about why I started podcasting.

I started my podcast in February 2020. At the time, I was working full time for an e-commerce company and teaching Japanese part time, but I decided to quit my 9–5 office job and teach Japanese full time.

But I wondered how I could attract new students.

After doing some marketing research, I came to the conclusion that podcast was one of the best ways to promote myself and get new students.

My goal was not only to attract students. What is important in language learning is a large amount of input, right? With podcasts, you can “listen” a lot. That’s why I wanted to do a podcast.

At first I did not have a good microphone and recorded with an iphone. So the sound quality was very poor. For about 3 months I was updating episodes every day. Even though I was making many episodes, the number of listeners never increased, and I had less than 100 listeners!

Currently I am doing season 2 and it already has 121 episodes. Transcripts for Season 2 are only available to my community.

It is no exaggeration to say that the podcast has changed my life. Now people from over 100 countries are listening to my podcast. My every day is busy with my private lessons.

In my podcast, I try to be “just who I am”. I don’t make audio like a boring textbook, I just talk freely about the topic. I think the selling point is that listeners can feel “Noriko’s character”.

Finally, I have to say something about Teppei sensei.

Another reason I started podcasting was Teppei sensei. As you know, his podcasts are legendary. There is no one who doesn’t know about them. I wanted to do a podcast like Teppei sensei.

And you know what…..

Now I am making a podcast Japanese with Teppei & Noriko with him. Isn’t it amazing?

My podcast is by no means the best, but I make it with a lot of passion and effort. I hope my podcast is helpful and that you enjoy it! I also hope that the number of members of Japanese Together, where my fans gather, will increase.
