We loathe our present and we are getting better at it.

I started considering my present to be imperfect and undesirable. And instead of enjoying my present, I started living with the hope of creating the perfect future. So many years have passed and the…

A Strong Emotion

The Happiest Place on Earth

The vehicle glided to a stop and the doors flung open. I grabbed my sister’s hand and pulled her out of the train car. The sun was rising high into the open sky. Clouds were scarce and the breeze was warm. My sister, Izzy, trailed behind me as I continued to pull her down the brick pathway. She called for me to slow down, but my body wouldn’t allow me. My muscles propelled me forward to the bag check. The Main Street playlist loop floated out into the open air and echoed in my ears. My heart skipped a beat as I appeared closer to the turnstiles. I pressed my wrist against the cool metal orb and a white light circled the center. I held my pointer finger against a sensor and the light glowed a magical green. I walked towards the entrance, leaving my sister behind. She ran towards me demanding me to wait for her. I couldn’t. I entered under the high arches and the familiar playlist was still looping through the space around me. I turned the corner and a beautiful castle revealed itself to the public. The sun was reflecting off of the gold accents, making the structure sparkle. Izzy finally caught up to me and was standing next to me in awe. We slowly continued down the path, entranced by the beauty and excitement of the castle. The smell of cotton candy and churros poked at the ends of our noses, making our stomachs feel empty. Parents were holding their daughters dressed in princess costumes and their sons were dressed in dashing prince costumes. My blood started pumping faster through my veins, making my body shake with glee. My pace quickened and soon we were immersed with a decision: where do we go now? The castle was towering over us and three paths were pleading us for travel. I looked at my sister, hoping she would make the decision for us. My mind was spinning. There were so many things to do and I didn’t know where I wanted to start! Izzy grabbed the shoulder strap to my tank top and pulled me to the right. The music smoothly changed into a techno beat. The smell of gasoline and sounds of revved engines filled the space around us. Kids were screaming with joy and bubbling with laughter that it made a smile smear across my face. A slight laugh escaped my lips as my sister pulled me along to a white building. We walked in and joined the long line of people lining the building. My heart felt like it was about to explode. We neared the train cars shaped like spaceships. We were guided into the front row, pulling down our lap bars. Izzy squeezed my shoulders as the ride operator let the car move forward. It quickened its pace and as the track dropped us down, my heart finally exploded. I screamed with joy, matching the other cacophony of screams echoing throughout the dark building. We exited the ride, the bright Florida sun draping itself over our bodies. They were warmed instantly. We carried ourselves through the rest of the area before entering into a new land. The music switched from a techno beat to a fairytale waltz. The sun was brighter, making the surrounding area more magical. As the day continued on, the sun began to set. We had almost finished every ride in each land, leaving us back at the looming castle. A crowd had started to form, making the feeling I had when I first entered the park return. It started in my feet and slowly started boiling in my veins. The sky turned black and the lights around us dimmed. Colorful lights exploded into the sky, illuminating every face with blues and reds and greens. When the show was over, Izzy and I dragged our tired bodies out of the most magical place on earth. Each step was like a dagger in our hearts. We didn’t want to leave, but we knew in our broken hearts that we’d be back someday soon.
