The Most Attractive Quality Someone Can Possess

A quality rarely found today.

I have received a daily text or phone call from my longest and best friend these past few weeks since my father passed away. People always say nothing is assured in life but death and taxes and I have to politely disagree. My friend Pats altruistic nature is more certain and daily consistent than either of the other ugly guarantees of life.

For as long as I can remember this is who Pat is at the core. He thinks of others before himself, he puts others' needs before his own, and he never needs recognition or thanks for this beautiful characteristic.

My father was also very altruistic. I have been blessed beyond belief in my life to be surrounded by these examples of what pure love looks like.

What is altruism?

Simple.

It’s selflessness.

The absolute concern for the welfare of others. This concern is instinctive. This need to ensure another person’s happiness, safety, and health is built into their DNA. Altruism is not selective either and I find that very special and poetic.

Altruism is a term used by the French philosopher Auguste Comte to denote benevolent instincts and emotions in general or actions prompted by them. Comte adopted this view of altruism as an antithesis to egoism. Almost a type of code that one lives by or has built into their general being.

If you’ve read any of my other articles you’ll know my incessant preaching about the need for selflessness in order to have a successful relationship. This belief I have is vital. In love, both parties must have or possess the ability to be selfless to the other.

They never have been, and never will be. The more capable the individual has of being altruistic the better the chances of a harmonious long-lasting relationship. You have to be able to give more than you receive in any relationship in life.

If I was asked by anyone what would be the most challenging aspect of our dating world today, I would say it's the lack of altruistic people.
