Power in Numbers

Today I am in the frays of the herd.

My heels sink in the damp ground as I step.

Grass ends unnaturally flattened back into the earth, pressed, until they stiffen again.

The sun is up so I walk.

When the world turns dull, daylight begins to draw.

So shall the lids over my milky eyes.

In the dark, I will be lost eternally, by vanished attention or the jaws of a wolf.

What I look like, my guess is: like the others.

Standing alone, I am only a thing.

Walking with many, we are a mass spreading like the ghost of God’s hand.

A mighty white whale, but,

I am just a sheep.
