I was with him and you were with her
And we would never let our feelings interfere
But there was a laugh shared between us both
No words said, but I got it when I looked at you.
An impulse flickered across your eyes and I could see you almost hold yourself back.
I know you felt my heartache as I made the decision to stifle it.
We never spoke of it, but we both knew. We both knew what to do.
Years have gone by and the fantasies of what might have been are no longer there. The memories we shared are faded and worn, like a picture kept in a pocket one two many times.
The laugh we shared, well I know we both hear sometimes, in the silence of our houses at night.
I can still feel your eyes flickering and my heart racing. I can still the what might have been.
Had we not hidden from our emotions, scared to rock the boat. Scared to make a mess, maybe, just maybe. Our lives could have turned out differently.
