State of India and ingrained sovereignty

After 72 years of independence, we are once again probing our national identity. Is it secular, democratic and are we a sovereign republic as enshrined in the preamble of our constitution?

This introspection at this juncture, when we claim to be ruled by a single largest party, which has assumed the mantle of responsibility, with an overwhelming mandate, seems more essential as countrymen feel letdown on various spheres.

Though every country relies on economic progress as an indicator of prosperity, some countries enjoy progress with healthy living as an indicator of progress. Well to put it simply, the GDP index or the HDI index. Now, between the two, where do we stand? All our honorable members of parliament representatives of our democracy, vociferously debate and discuss on various issues plaguing our country. But, 72 years of such discussions and debates have not led to fruitful accomplishments of our growth in real numbers either in GDP or HDI.

Our skilled potential of the human workforce is redundant in fighting over supremacy in policy-making rather than sweating for success. The only recourse that today’s youth is inclined, is towards greener pastures that the western world offers, as a lucrative living. What then our educational system has achieved in these 72 years?

There has been a lot of movement today from rural India to various cities in our country and the major reason for such, being employment opportunities available in major cities. Why is it then, we have unearthed the potential of rural employment? Why has the framed parliament failed i addressing this pivotal issue, as our country possesses vast resources of agricultural lands and a huge mine of metals and minerals? Un fortunately, few individuals garner these resources and dictate the politics of our country. 72 years and we still the carrya mindset of slavery inherited by the British colonial legacy. When do wee the rural development in our country? It is not the monetary packages that can assuage our farmers, but one needs to provide the confidence and methods to yield benefits by practicing agriculture. Farmers need mental and physical support to earn money and the government shall aim to provide such an impetus for growth. Let us look at monetary and economic policies to help agriculturists reach the pinnacle of growth rather than rendering them ineffective and participating in rallies to earn their livelihoods.

There is also a commotion in comprehending the term secularism as is enshrined in the constitution, as this definition, is misinterpreted for political gains. The basic tenet of compassion to humanity and the concept of live and let live is lost in certain religious fundamental fringe groups, who threaten the fabric of democracy, due to overzealousness. The government should also rein in such elements with no remorse.

The idea of merging of rivers, a dream of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and pursued rigorously by Sri Mokshagundam Visweswarayya, has never seen the execution, as we notice the catastrophes that would ensue with dearth of water resources in southern states and the northeast regions. This again is an issue languishing for 72 years and sees no light, yet.

India is a great country with cultural and linguistic diversities, yet unified by the idea of one civility. We have had great experiences of our tradition embedded by one language, Sanskrit and it would be great if our democracy can revive this language for our progeny as this unique language would bind us together as one culture.

Our Prime Minister has ensured a corrupt-free economy and has severely lashed out at all corrupt democracy besides political masters. So let us all come together setting aside differences of caste, community, religion and gender, strengthen the hands of our government in leading our country into a belligerent state, with vigor, humanity, being secular and working towards development of all sectors relentlessly, such that India regains glory, of what we were to what we can. We have shown the world of our intelligence, space research, sports, and theatre. Now let us work towards the development of agriculture, manufacturing, education, and services. We are not limited by the threats to free press, nor are we limited by gagging on our rights, we a vibrant economy, ready to conjure upon a freat future. It is not dusk or crepuscular but a dawn of a great beginning.
