Amazed

By A Mosaic on the Wall

The wall was a colorful mosaic,
patterns of unsymmetrical tiles
each with its own personality,
unique shape and color
that fit snuggly like pieces in a jigsaw puzzle

At first, I looked away, because I was late
I had no time for my senses to be bombarded
so early in the morning
on the way to my usual routine

an unassuming neighborhood café
with brown tables, beige walls,
and some green ferns for ambiance
along with reasonably underpriced coffee

A place for me to be alone with my thoughts
A place to stop the world from sinking in, to think,
scribble down some words pounding on my brain
on to blank paper with indelible ink

But this morning is different
I am amazed by the colors and shapes on the wall
Each one eccentric and mesmerizing
each with its own voice
in harmonious negotiation

Floating peacefully on the borderline
of an equally beautiful, powerful neighbor
Overseen by a gatekeeper in a meditative state
eyes shut in deliberation and ears wide open

When I notice each piece existing within its own globe
Like solar systems within a universe
I yearn to spin worlds and words
and join the muse in her prayer for harmony and peace

Thanks to Edie Tuck for inspiration
