Do Medium Facebook Groups Help You Become a Better Writer?

If your goal is to become a better writer, be careful which groups you join.

When I determined that I was going to write once a day on Medium, I did so out of a desire for a creative outlet and a place that I could improve my writing. At the end of the day, I wanted to help people, but I was pleased to know that writing consistently would help me as well. Specifically, I wanted to refine my style and I wanted to get better at writing engaging content. These are still my goals.

For obvious reasons, an additional goal was to reach 100 followers. One of the little tips I found along the way was to join Medium Facebook groups, post your content, and start engaging with other writers. I immediately started doing so.

I’ll give you an example. Someone posted an article with a fascinating title. It drew me in. When I saw the article I genuinely wanted to read and engage. Many others had already done so. When I started reading the article, I realized that there was nothing of value whatsoever. In fact, it was not written well at all. It lacked basic grammar, punctuation, and complete sentences.

So, while many other writers were engaging, clapping, and singing praises, what really would…
