An Appeal For Cleaner Energy

from the bottom to the top

Some people are saying, wrap nuclear winter around your weary heads
Counter all the hot air — since cold blade politics have cut our souls to shreds
Snuggle up below the poison clouds, have some cocoa and enjoy —
Walk in a nuclear winter wonderland, don’t let we who “told you so” annoy.

Maybe a million years ago Dr. Sagan taught of fiery Venus and Frozen Mars
And compared rightly, eruditely, that neither should be a world of ours.
Yet, a baby with the button needs a change and makes a stink,
While a burning, yearning populace edges closer to the brink.

A few us are done to dust, but have some thoughts before the launch,
Like just, who can start anew, and who will blow the conch?
Instead, let’s pull our brightest minds back from suicide,
Engage collaboration, increase compassion, magnified.

Built a molten salt reactor by taking floods of tears,
Mold them into reactor towers amid hope and cheers,
Thorium, instead of uranium, is fair substitute,
Avoid plutonium altogether to make shrill bombs fall mute.

Still, it’s not without its peril, but these days, is anything?
All my assembled atoms say “Why not?” It’s not so strange.
When Earth feels like a thermal breeder, it’s much, much, much too hot.
I say we take all our energy and, let’s give it all we got.
