So yesterday, I asked my buddy Jim Woods, a Top Medium writer and coach, to share his top ten articles from 2020 with me to figure out how he does it.
In turn, I did a quick quantitative analysis of his top ten articles for commonalities, including by word count, number of claps, number of responses, tag frequency, publications, and number of images, pull quotes, links, and lists.
I also reviewed the articles from a more qualitative marketing perspective, looking for common themes, audience, tone/style, and sentiment, and if they contained any calls to action.
Below is the list of his top ten articles from 2020 and my analysis of each post, along with his transcribed commentary on each one.
Taken all together, they provide a framework for other writers who aspire to earn more money writing on Medium. These are not rules or even guidelines for other writers. Instead, they are benchmarks of how one full-time writer makes a steady income stream publishing on Medium.
